We are Steve Marshall and Caroline Ross. Between the two of us, we lost fifteen stone and we have kept it off for several years. The Weight Maintenance Manual will tell you how we did it, and it will help you to achieve something similar.
This is the book for people who want to lose weight, but who are particularly interested in keeping that weight off forever. It’s based on the idea that long-term maintenance of a healthy weight depends on losing weight in the right way.
We explain clearly and thoroughly how to lose weight, and how to keep it off, using simple, non-fad techniques.
Our Weight Maintenance Manual will help you, whatever dieting problems you have had in the past, and whatever dieting problems you are going through now.
This is us, in our slimmed-down form. Unfortunately, we have both had a lot of experience of alternating between losing weight and gaining weight. What kept getting in the way, as we finally found out, was that losing weight is one thing, but keeping it off is another thing altogether. We certainly have found that we are more inclined to take notice of what someone says about weight loss if the person saying it has had problems themselves. So we’ll just give you a short overview here of our weight over the years and the problems we came up against.
Steve had been overweight for most of his life, although he was often on a diet. In other words, he was a good dieter, but a hopeless maintainer. In the end he weighed over twenty-three stone, a high and dangerous weight, even for his 6′ 1″ frame. He was pre-diabetic, had high blood pressure, and could hardly walk. Then he finally found a weight-loss system that suited him and in twenty months he slimmed down to thirteen stone. He has now maintained his loss for several years.
Caroline began to put on weight in her late twenties, and gained even more on maternity leave, reaching thirteen stone. Then followed ten years of weight loss/weight gain/repeat (‘yo-yo dieting’). She decided to count calories, and stumbled across the Nutracheck website. Early on, she read a blog by one Steve Marshall, and so began a connection that helped her reduce her weight to a healthy nine stone. With the odd wobble, she has maintained that weight.
