As always, thank you for being on the distribution list for these occasional emailed newsletters about Playing Days and Courses run by Ann and Steve Marshall, under the banner of ASRE (Ann & Steve’s Recorder Events). Our newsletters are to let you know about significant updates of the ASRE website:
And to encourage you to visit the site for details.
This newsletter is mainly to let you know that the Biggleswade Recorder Orchestra Weekend (BROW to its friends) is now open for business. The details, and a booking form are now on the ASRE website, here:
An at-a-glance summary is that this new course runs from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon, 23-25 October 2015. It is to be held at the impressive Mansion House, surrounded by Old Warden Park. The structure of the course is similar to previous recorder orchestra courses, in that each time slot will feature orchestras of both greater and lesser difficulty. The tutors are Helen Hooker, Ruth Burbidge, Ann Marshall and Steve Marshall, who all have a great interest in and much experience of recorder orchestras. There are three residential packages, depending on the type of room, ranging from £220 to £260, and non-residential is possible too. We hope that the website will answer most of your questions but, if not (and as always), if you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact Ann (01452 831654) Email
Updates of other ASRE events are…
Both the U3A Recorder Course and the Rural Recorder Course 4 are now full. We will probably run these courses again in 2016.
The Recorder Playing Day (Redbourn), conducted by Helen Hooker on Sunday 16th August 2015 is about two-thirds full, so there is still time to register for it – but possibly not much time!
The second May Hill Double-Header 2015, conducted by Helen Hooker (Multichoir) and Ann and Steve Marshall (Easier Eight-Foot) on 26-27 September 2015, may be half a year away, but bookings are going very well indeed. There are only about a dozen places left for each day.
A new ASRE event is a concert, featuring Helen Hooker and Rosemary Robinson. This is at the Parish Rooms, Highnam, near Gloucester, starting at 7.30. Helen will be accompanied by Rosemary on the spinet, and will be joined for parts of the evening by the recorder sextet Forest Recorders. On the programme will be Lassus, Handel and Bach, as well as arrangements of folk tunes from around Europe and some jazz. As if that were not enough, there will also be a fun telling of a version of Cinderella. Tickets are £10. Details are on the ASRE website, here…
