Bella Musica – Ann, Jean and Sarah – is a recorder trio based in the Forest of Dean. We love playing at community events, such as charity functions, fund-raisers, flower festivals, Christmas events etc. We play a variety of sizes of recorder, from the sopranino down to the contra bass. The choice of music we offer is very varied, and it suits all occasions and surroundings.
WHAT SORT OF MUSIC DO WE PLAY?
All three of us have broad musical tastes, and the music we play ranges from songs from the shows to serious classical music by the great composers in history. We span the ages, from medieval pieces to those written very recently. So a Bella Musica performance often includes the odd spot of Vivaldi, a rag by Scott Joplin and a song from the Sound of Music!
Most people have heard the recorder played by children, using very small instruments, and not making the nicest of sounds. We use the not-often-seen bigger recorders, which make a beautiful sound, and delight audiences. The reaction we usually get is “we didn’t know recorders could sound like that!”
WHERE DO WE PLAY?
Our ‘home ground’ is the Forest of Dean, although we are also happy to play elsewhere – past or planned gigs include those in Chepstow, Cheltenham and Bristol. We are usually booked by community organisations, and we particularly enjoy entertaining groups who are trying to raise some money, or who may not usually be able to afford musical entertainment.
